DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's soccer team defeated the Vikings of Bethany Lutheran College by a final score of 10-0 in a soggy Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament semifinal Wednesday afternoon at Saints Field.
First HalfKyle Farrar (London, England/Kelsey Park Sports College) got the scoring started for CSS, netting his first of five goals in the eighth minute with the assist going to
Sean Morgan (Belfast, Ireland/St. Patrick’s Grammar School).
Morgan would follow up his assist less than a minute later scoring his own goal on assists by Farrar and
Ben Phillips (Lymm, England/Lymm HS), and just like that the Saints found themselves up by two goals less than 10 minutes into the match.
The next two CSS goals also came less than a minute apart from one another. At the 12:08 mark,
Jonny Harkin (Studley, England/St. Benedicts School) took a
Dale Hayes (Bognor Regis, England/Felpham Community College) pass and sent it flying into the back of the net for his 13
th goal of the season putting CSS up 3-0.
Following the Harkin goal just 47 seconds later, Farrar netted his second goal of the match to put the Saints up 4-0. Harkin and
Kyle Hewitt (Richmond Hill, Ontario/St. Theresa of Lisieux) had the assists.
Just 3:01 later, Farrar would put his third goal in the net completing the hat trick in just 15:56 of game time to increase the Saints lead to 5-0.
The Saints would add one more goal in the first half to bring the lead to 6-0 when
Darby Henderson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) scored his first of two goals at the 35:44 mark of the match.
Second HalfHarkin would get the scoring started in the second half by putting home his second goal of the match just 2:03 into the half to give the Saints a 7-0 lead.
Farrar would follow up his three goal performance in the second half by tallying the next two goals for the Saints, first on an unassisted goal at the 56:46 mark of the match, and then on a penalty kick at the 71:48 mark to bring the Saints lead to 9-0.
Henderson would end the scoring for CSS by heading home the 10
th goal of the match on assists by Morgan and
Josh Robak (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral). When the final whistle sounded the final scoreboard read CSS 10, Bethany Lutheran 0.
Farrar's day would end with a statline of five goals and an assist on nine shots on goal, while Morgan totaled a goal and three assists with four total shots taken.
Sandy Davidson-Hunt (Kenora, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas) did not need to make a save to earn his fifth shutout of the season.
