Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 23 Men's Soccer Plays Carleton to a Draw

Notables
-First overtime game of the year for the Saints
-CSS out-shot Carleton 25-20 (16-10 on-goal)

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The No. 23 St. Scholastica men's soccer team played Carleton College to a 1-1 tie on Sunday in a non-conference matchup at Saints Field.

The Knights came out pressuring the Saints from the opening whistle and were rewarded when Trent Elmore played a ball into the box that was headed in by Sam Hayward to give Carleton a 1-0 lead nine minutes into the match.

The Saints settled in after the goal and had good scoring chances in the 21st minute when Kyle Farrar (London, England/Kelsey Park Sports College) and Shawayne Folkes (Toronto, Ontario/Maxwell Heights) had back-to-back shots on net, but were denied both times by Carleton goalkeeper Brandon Hilliard. The Knights went into halftime with a 1-0 advantage.

CSS out-shot Carleton 12-9 in the first half with Hilliard making six saves for the Knights and Sandy Davidson-Hunt (Kenora, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas) making four saves for the Saints.

The Saints would be the aggressors coming out in the second half and just one minute and 15 seconds into the half Farrar and Jonny Harkin (Studley, England/St. Benedicts School) had a nice combination with Harkin finishing to tie the game at 1-1.

The action went back-and-forth, up and down the field the rest of the half with both teams having good scoring chances. The Knights had a corner just as regulation expired, but the header went sailing over the crossbar as the game went to overtime.

The Knights (7-5-3) had the better of play in the first 10 minute overtime, but neither team found the goal. The second overtime saw each team with chances to end the game. First it was Carleton's Hayward heading a corner kick 54 seconds in that was denied by Davidson-Hunt. Then it was Danny Leal looking to finish a cross inside the six-yard-line, but fortunately for the Saints the ball went sailing over the net. Then it was the Saints with four great shot attempts on goal, but Hilliard stopped them all as the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

Davidson-Hunt made nine saves for the Saints, while Hilliard had 15 saves for the Knights.
