DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The No. 23-ranked St. Scholastica men's soccer team defeated Bridge Rival University of Wisconsin-Superior for the second time this season Thursday evening by a score of 3-1 behind three first half goals at Ordean Stadium.
First HalfThe Saints put the pressure on early and it paid off when
Sean Morgan (Belfast, Ireland/St. Patrick’s Grammar School) played a ball from the side of the net off a UWS defender and into the net in the 6th minute to give CSS an early 1-0 lead
The second goal of the game came when UWS gave the ball away and
Shawayne Folkes (Toronto, Ontario/Maxwell Heights) struck the ball past the UWS goalkeeper low far post to double the CSS lead 2-0 just 14:15 into the match.
CSS would end the first half on a high note as Morgan took a
Jonny Winter (Healthfield, England/Healthfield Community College) pass and put in in the back of the net for the third goal of the first half for the Saints, and the halftime whistle sounded a 3-0 lead for the Saints.
Second HalfPhysicality picked up in the second half as nine cards would be distributed, including a red on both sides. The Saints got their red card with 30 minutes remaining, meaning they would have to play a man down the rest of the way. Superior took advantage in the 78
th minute scoring their first goal of the game off a free kick to make the score 3-1.
CSS would ride out the rest of the contest and take home the win over the Yellowjackets 3-1.
Morgan led the team in shots with six and Saints goaltender
Sandy Davidson-Hunt (Kenora, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas) made four saves on the night for his 10th victory of the season.
