Overtime Can’t Produce Winner as Saints tie LumberJacks

Notables:
-Michael Berens recorded three points for Northland College with a goal and two assists.
-Michael Spring (Kelowna, British Columbia/Okanagan Mission (Chilliwack-BCHL) ) scored the tying goal for the Saints at 13:13 of the third period.
-Derek Hills (Campbell River, British Columbia/Timberline Secondary (Bowling Green State) ) finished the game with two goals for St. Scholastica.
-Dave Williams (Okotoks, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) and Keegan Bruce (Bellingham, Wash./Bellingham HS (Weyburn-SJHL) ) each recorded two assists.


ASHLAND, Wis. (csssaints.com) – St. Scholastica men's hockey tied Northland College 4-4 after an overtime period couldn't settle the score.
 
The LumberJacks opened the scoring at 1:02 of the first period with a goal from Darius Cole. Michael Berens got the assist on the play.
 
Just over halfway through the first period Dylan Nowakowski (Calgary, Alberta/Centennial HS (Brooks-AJHL) ) would tie the game for the Saints with his ninth goal of the year from Luke Simpson (Canmore, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Canmore-AJHL) ) and Steven Phee (Balzac, Alberta/George McDougall HS (Canmore-AJHL) ).
 
Timothy Perks put Northland on top 2-1 at 16:52 of the first with Colby Spoonemore and Matt Lennon recording assists.
 
The Saints and LumberJacks would combine for four goals in a back and forth second period.
 
Just 40 seconds into the period Derek Hills (Campbell River, British Columbia/Timberline Secondary (Bowling Green State) ) tied the score at 2-2 for CSS with Keegan Bruce (Bellingham, Wash./Bellingham HS (Weyburn-SJHL) ) and Dave Williams (Okotoks, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) assisting on the goal.
 
Hills would add a goal another goal late in the second to give St. Scholastica a 3-2 lead. Dave Williams (Okotoks, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) and Bruce added assists on the play.
 
Northland would rally back with two goals late in the period.  Darius Cole tied the game at 3-3 with Berens recording his second assist of the game.
 
Then just 27 seconds later Michael Berens would give the LumberJacks a 4-3 lead. Ben Owen and Anthony Stimpin contributed assists on the goal.
 
St. Scholastica outshot Northland 15-to-2 in the final period and would eventually tie the game with a goal from Michael Spring (Kelowna, British Columbia/Okanagan Mission (Chilliwack-BCHL) ) at the 13:13 of the third. Ryan Cooper (New Westminster, British Columbia/New Westminster Secondary (Dauphin-MJHL) ) and Brandon Millin (Port Moody, British Columbia/Heritage Woods HS (Notre Dame Hounds-SJHL) ) picked up assists on the play.
 
The Saints were dangerous in the overtime period recording three shots without allowing any to Northland, however, they could not find the game-winning goal as the game finished tied at 4-4.
 
Overall CSS outshot the LumberJacks 44-to-13 overall in the game.
 
St. Scholastica takes on Northland at Mars Lakeview Arena on Saturday at 7 p.m.
