DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team completed a sweep of Lawrence University (Wis.) on Saturday with a 4-2 win at Mars Lakeview Arena.

Lawrence's Tom Lee opened up the scoring just under halfway in the first period. Following his lead was teammate Blake Roubos to make it a quick 2-0 lead over the Saints. Saints responded with a goal from Dylan Nowakowski (Calgary, Alberta/Centennial HS (Brooks-AJHL) ) later in the period. Assisting him was Dave Williams (Okotoks, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) and Keegan Bruce (Bellingham, Wash./Bellingham HS (Weyburn-SJHL) ) to make it a one goal deficit for the Saints after one period of play.

CSS opened the second period with a penalty kill in which they scored a very quick shorthanded goal. Dealing the blow was Michael Spring (Kelowna, British Columbia/Okanagan Mission (Chilliwack-BCHL) ) and he was unassisted. With the Vikings two skaters down, Derek Hills (Campbell River, British Columbia/Timberline Secondary (Bowling Green State) ) ripped one into the net about halfway through the period that gave CSS its first lead of the game. His helpers were Nowakowski and D. Williams. The second ended 3-2 in favor of St. Scholastica.

After the Saints killed off a 5-on-3, Joel Paiement (Okotoks, Alberta/Holy Trinity Academy (Calgary Canucks-AJHL) ) netted a goal for the Saints midway through the third period for a little breathing room. Helping him out was Kale Derkson (Regina, Saskatchewan/Sheldon Williams Collegiate/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Notre Dame-SJHL)) and Sam Williams (Winnipeg, Manitoba/River East Collegiate (Melville-SJHL) ). The CSS goal was the lone point of the period as the final score ended up 4-2.

St. Scholastica's Tyler Bruggeman (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS (Austin-NAHL) ) had 24 saves, while Lawrence's Mattias Soderqvist had 42 saves in the loss.

Lawrence record falls to 6-12-1 on the season and 5-7-0 in NCHA conference play. St. Scholastica continues to improve its record which is now 10-7-2 overall and 7-4-1 in the NCHA.
