MORRIS, Minn. (csssaints.com) – St. Scholastica men's basketball was defeated 84-72 in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) matchup against the University of Minnesota-Morris.
The Saints and Cougars played a very tightly contested first half of basketball with Minnesota-Morris taking a 40-36 lead into halftime. Both teams shot the ball efficiently from the field in the opening half but CSS struggled from beyond the arc shooting just 1-of-9 compared to 4-of-10 for the Cougars.
In the second half Minnesota-Morris began to take control of the game by shooting 57.7% from the field while the Saints were held to just 35.5%. The Cougars built their lead to 17 points with just over two minutes remaining in the game and finished the game up 12 points with a final score of 84-72.
St. Scholastica edged Minnesota-Morris in several areas of the game including rebounding (41-to-27), 2
nd-chance points (24-to-7), and bench points (38-to-31) but the Saints inability to hit from 3-point range, converting just 3-of-22 attempts on the night, was a factor throughout the game.
CSS also had trouble taking care of the ball as the Cougars managed 11 steals on the night.
Minnesota-Morris now sits second in the UMAC standing with a 4-1 conference record.
The Saints will look to get back on track when they travel to New Ulm, Minnesota to take on Martin Luther College on Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
