Hot Shooting Saints Get past Knights

NEW ULM, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team shot 71 percent from the floor in the second half in a 85-65 win over the Martin Luther College Knights on Friday night.
 
The Knights took an early 7-2 lead over the Saints to open the game. The Saints quickly got the game within one point before the teams exchanged the lead. Midway through the half, the Knights  led by seven points; the biggest lead of the game for the Knights. The Saints ended the first half on a 10-2 run to give them a 42-34 edge over Martin Luther.
 
The Saints didn't look back in the second half, shooting 71 percent for the half. The Saints took their first 20-point lead with just over six and half minutes left in the game. CSS had a 24-point lead later in the half and Martin Luther was just not able to battle back within reach before the final buzzer.
 
The Saints 3-point shooting was 7-for-14 for 50 percent while going 18-for-20 from the charity stripe and kept the high shooting percentage going by shooting a season-high 57.7 percent from the field.  Andrew Laughlin (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS) led the Saints in scoring with a career-high 22 points, 8-for-8 from the free throw line and eight rebounds. Following suit was Jake Naslund (Barnum, Minn./Barnum HS) off the bench with 12 points. Marc Peterson (Esko, Minn./Esko HS) also found double digits in scoring with 10 points.
 
Martin Luther had Luke Rothe as the top scorer with 27 points and nine rebounds. The Knights shot just over 40 percent from the field, only seven percent from beyond the arc and went 16-for-31 in free throws. Their record falls to 2-15 overall and 1-5 in UMAC play.
 
St. Scholastica's record improves to 7-10 on the season and 3-3 in the UMAC.
 
The Saints' next game will be tomorrow against Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
