DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – St. Scholastica men's hockey lost 3-0 to No.8 Adrian College on Saturday at Mars Lakeview Arena.

The Saints were looking to shoot in a dominant opening period against the eighth-ranked Bulldogs. St. Scholastica fired 12 shots on goal but Adrian goalie Scott Shackell denied every opportunity. The Bulldogs couldn't get it together offensively in the first period only managing three shots on net.

In the second period of hockey the ice started to tilt heavily in the Bulldogs favor. Adrian would take a 1-0 lead at 1:49 of the second period with Kyle Brothers scoring an unassisted goal.

Despite being given two power play opportunities, the Saints still could not muster a goal and produced just four shots on goal while allowing 10 in the period. However, CSS still only trailed 1-0 heading into the final period of play.

Adrian College would strike first midway through third period extending its lead to 2-0 with a Ryan Lowe goal from Adam Davies and Brett Pinkerton.

St. Scholastica applied heavy offensive pressure in the period outshooting the Bulldogs 11-to-6, however, untimely penalties and great goaltending would prevent the Saints from getting into the goal column.

Pat George added an empty-net goal for Adrian with 48 seconds left in regulation to bring the final score to 3-0. Mathew Thompson picked up an assist on the goal.

Neither team could take advantage of special teams chances in the game with both teams going 0-for-3 on the power play.

Scott Shackell made 27 saves in a shutout effort for the Bulldogs.

Tyler Bruggeman (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS (Austin-NAHL) ) was solid in net for CSS making 16 saves on 18 shots.

Up next the Saints will look to end a four-game winless streak on Friday when they host Lawrence University for the first game of a two-game series at Mars Lakeview Arena. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
