OSHKOSH, Wis. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's soccer team defeated No. 21 University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh 2-0 at J.J Keller Field Saturday morning. The win marked the first in program history against NCAA-ranked squad.

The Saints victory is their first of the season over a ranked opponent and improves the season record to 2-1-0 overall. The 2-0 result gives CSS its second consecutive shutout win. Saints goalkeeper Jacob Ballheimer (Gerrards Cross, England/Chalfonts Community College) was in net for both clean sheets and currently leads the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference in shutouts as well as holding the second best goals-against average on the season.

The Titans entered their matchup against St. Scholastica with a perfect 3-0-0 record without conceding a single goal which topped the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Both sides came out attacking from the first whistle with 19 shots recorded in the first half. CSS was able to open the scoring early thanks to a well-executed set piece from sophomore defender Tom Corcoran (Warrington, England/Great Sankey HS, Priestley College). Corcoran fired his 18-yard free kick past Titan goalkeeper Nick Barry in the 20th minute. It didn't take long for Scholastica to add to its lead as freshmen midfielder Jonny Winter (Healthfield, England/Healthfield Community College) tapped in his second goal of the season in the 26th minute.

UW-Oshkosh struggled to gain momentum offensively with an organized Saints backline in good form. The Titans managed only five shots on frame during the contest. Junior forward Jonathan Stanley led the Titans with four shots and two of those requiring saves from Ballheimer.

The second half saw St. Scholastica take over the game defensively and protect its lead holding UW-Oshkosh to just one shot on goal. The win marks the first for the Saints over Wisconsin-Oshkosh in two matchups.

Next up the Saints travel to Carleton College on Wednesday with a 4 p.m. kickoff.
