DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's soccer team marched past the Crown College Storm on Saturday afternoon at Saints Field in a 4-0 decision.
The Saints sent a whirlwind of balls at the Crown net in the first half with 13 shots fired.
Kyle Farrar (Sevenoaks, England/Kelsey Park Sports College) landed his 12
th goal from up the gut to put the Saints in the lead after the first period. He was assisted by
Tom Corcoran (Warrington, England/Great Sankey HS, Priestley College) and
Ben Phillips (Warrington, England/Lymm HS). Crown was only allowed minimum offensive chance with two shots in the first half of the game.
The second period of the competition was much of the same offensively for the Saints. The team fired 15 more shots at Crown goalkeeper Justin Lao and landed three more goals for CSS. Farrar had his second goal of the day and 13
th goal of the season in a huge breakaway score. He was assisted by
Charlie Crane (Southampton, England/Brockenhurst College) this time.
Andrew Jenkins (Cardiff, Wales/Whitchurch HS) set up at the right post and fired a shot awhile later for the Saints' third goal against Crown and to get his 12
th goal on the season. This time
Sean Morgan (Belfast, Ireland/St. Patrick’s Grammar School) and Farrar helped Jenkins out with the shot.
Erik Graham (Raade, Norway/Duluth Marshall School) put in header to seal the 4-0 shutout for the Saints on Saturday. Corcoran tallied his second assist in the match along with
Andrew Xotta-Dickson (Adelaide, South Australia/Prince Alfred College (Anoka Ramsey CC)) to help Graham with his first goal of the season. Goalkeeper
Jacob Ballheimer (Gerrards Cross, England/Chalfonts Community College) had six saves in the Saints' shutout, his seventh of the season.
With Saturday's win, the Saints rally on in five straight UMAC wins. Scholastica's record becomes 8-2-0 overall and has yet to find a loss in the UMAC play.
Despite giving up four goals, Lao had 12 saves against the Saints on Saturday. Truman Shetler had his say offensively with three shots at CSS's net but came up empty handed. The Storm put six of its 10 shots on goal. Crown falls to a 4-3-2 overall record and drops its first UMAC match making the Storm 2-1-0 in conference play.
St. Scholastica looks for its next opponent on Friday at Saints Field against another UMAC rival, Martin Luther. The game will be held at 4:15 p.m.
