DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica football team will have its conference home opener on Saturday when Crown College comes to town for a 3 p.m. kickoff at Public Schools Stadium.

The Saints defeated Iowa Wesleyan College 41-14 last Saturday in the team's first road game of the year … The CSS defense was the story, holding the Tigers to zero yards on the ground, recording seven sacks and forcing four turnovers … Quarterback was part of four touchdowns for the Saints, throwing for two and running for two more.
 
UMAC Success: The Saints have won 13 straight UMAC games; a streak dating back to October 20, 2012 … CSS has lost only one UMAC game in the last three seasons.

Getting Defensive: Last Saturday's defensive performance at Iowa Wesleyan was one of the best in program history … The zero yards rushing allowed was the second-fewest in program history as was the 113 yards of total offense allowed … CSS tied for the second-most sacks in a game with seven.
 
Mike's Pick-6: John Mike (South St. Paul, Minn./South St. Paul HS) had two interceptions last week, including one that went 35 yards for a touchdown … That is the 13th game the Saints have had a defensive score and CSS is 12-1 in those games.

Harper Closing in on Career Marks: Tyler Harper (Minneapolis, Minn./DeLaSalle HS) (315) is 24 completions shy of the program record for pass completions held by Alex Thiry (339) … Harper may pass Thiry on Saturday for most career total offensive yards as he is just 94 yards away … He is also only 13 yards shy of going over 4,000 yards passing in his career.
 
Cedarleaf on the Edge: Senior defensive end Blake Cedarleaf (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) is 1.5 sacks shy of tying Christopher Doran's program record of 13.5 sacks in a career.
 
Series History: This will be the fourth time the Saints will have hosted Crown in Duluth, but the first time at PSS ... The first two meetings took place at UMD's Malosky Stadium with the Saints going 1-1 ... The 2012 meeting took place at Ordean Stadium with the Saints coming out on top … Last year the Saints score a late touchdown under the lights in St. Bonifacius to hold off Crown 24-14.
 
Crown College Storm
The Storm is off to a 0-2 start this season after finishing last season winning four of their final five games … The Storm fell to Westminster at home in its conference opener last weekend after being shut out 20-0 in the second half … Crown has ran the ball well in its first two games, averaging 208 yards per game … Sophomore running backs Josh Edlund and Matt Michaud have split the carries with Edlund averaging 72.5 yards per game and Michaud 71.5 yards per contest … The passing attack has only produced 133 total yards this season and the Storm are only averaging three yards per completion … Sophomore linebacker Jalen Phoenix and senior defensive lineman Drew Zoromski each have a team-high 13 tackles, including 6.5 for a loss … The Storm have a recovered a conference-high four fumbles this season.
 
Head Coach John Auer: Coach Auer is in his 14th season as head coach of Crown … Under Auer's leadership, Crown came up just short of a UMAC title in 2010 … Auer came to Crown from St. Cloud State University where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education and Coaching in 1995 and followed with his Master of Science in Sports Management while serving as a Graduate Assistant … Auer then took over the offensive line duties for the Huskies, spending his next eight seasons there … Auer played collegiately at Winona State University as a defensive end from 1989-1992.
