Saints Headed to the Conference Championship

MINNEAPOLIS (csssaints.com)—The St. Scholastica women's tennis team dominated in the UMAC Tournament semifinals Friday night against the University of Minnesota Morris, winning 8-1 at the Baseline Tennis Center.
 
In the singles competition, Alexis Gunderson (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) won in the No. 2 spot 6-4, 6-3. In the No. 3 spot Jessica Solberg (Bemidji, Minn. /Bemidji HS) and No. 4 spot Aleksandra Ochrymowicz (Winnipeg, Manitoba/St. Mary’s Academy) both won 6-3, 6-4.
 
At No. 5, Katie Kingston (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) won 6-0, 6-1.  Finishing up singles play was Kelsey Geiger (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) who won 6-3, 6-0 in the No. 6 spot.
 
In doubles play, Gunderson and Solberg won in the No. 1 spot by a close score of 9-7. Madeleine Scanlan (St. Albans, England /Loreto College) and Alexa Herbst (Foley, Minn. /Foley HS) won 8-1 as the No. 2 team.  In the No. 3 spot Kingston and Allie Carlson (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin HS) won 8-0.
 
The Saints (17-6) will have a rubber match with the University of Northwestern tomorrow in the championship match at 12:30 p.m. at the Baseline Tennis Center. The teams split during the regular season with both winning by 6-3 scores.
