Saints Return Home to Blank Martin Luther

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team was at home for the first time since mid-February and defeated Martin Luther College 9-0 on Tuesday.

In doubles play, both the No.2 team of Allie Carlson (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin HS) and Katie Kingston (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) as well as No. 3 team of Miki Samz (Savage, Minn. /Burnsville HS) and Olivia Bretting (Ashland, Wis. /Ashland HS (St. Thomas)) won 8-0. CSS' No. 1 team of Alexis Gunderson (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) and Madeleine Scanlan (St. Albans, England /Loreto College) won 8-4 to finish up doubles play.

On the singles side Halle Nystrom (Fargo, N.D. /Fargo North HS) started things off in the No. 6 spot, winning 6-2, 6-1. Kelsey Geiger (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) won in the No. 5 spot 6-1, 6-0. Pamela Hartley (Lima, Peru/Franklin Roosevelt College) added another win in the No. 4 spot by scores of 6-0, 6-2.

Both Scanlan and Jessica Solberg (Bemidji, Minn. /Bemidji HS) won 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 2 and 3 spots. Finishing off play was Gunderson who won 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 1 spot.

The Saints (11-6, 4-1 UMAC) will host North Central University and travel to Martin Luther on Saturday as the team splits up. The North Central match will take place at the Arrowhead Tennis Center.
