Saints Win Two UMAC Matches to Extend Streak to Four

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team added two more wins to its conference record on Saturday defeating Martin Luther College and North Central University.

St. Scholastica 9, Martin Luther 0
A portion of the St. Scholastica team traveled to New Ulm to face Martin Luther in the morning.

In doubles action, the No. 2 team of Aleksandra Ochrymowicz (Winnipeg, Manitoba/St. Mary’s Academy) and Katie Kingston (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) and No. 1 team of Madeleine Scanlan (St. Albans, England /Loreto College) and Alexa Herbst (Foley, Minn. /Foley HS) both won 8-1. The No. 3 team of Miki Samz (Savage, Minn. /Burnsville HS) and Olivia Bretting (Ashland, Wis. /Ashland HS (St. Thomas)) won 8-0.

On the singles side, Scanlan at No. 1, Ochrymowicz at No. 2, and Bretting at No. 6 all did not drop a game in winning 6-0, 6-0. Ochrymowicz has won sixth straight singles matches.

Kingston in the No. 3 spot won 6-0, 6-2. In the No. 4 position, Herbst won 6-1, 6-0. Samz won her match 6-3, 6-0 in the No. 5 spot.

St. Scholastica 9, North Central 0
The rest of the Saints stayed in Duluth and defeated North Central at the Arrowhead Tennis Center.

In doubles play, the No. 2 team of Pamela Hartley (Lima, Peru/Franklin Roosevelt College) and Allie Carlson (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin HS) along with the No. 3 team of Kelsey Geiger (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) and Halle Nystrom (Fargo, N.D. /Fargo North HS) both won 8-0. The No. 1 squad of Alexis Gunderson (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) and Jessica Solberg (Bemidji, Minn. /Bemidji HS) won 8-1.

On the singles side Geiger in the No. 4 spot, Carlson in the No. 5 spot, and Nystrom in the No. 6 spot all played an eight-game pro-set and won 8-0.

Gunderson cruised in the No. 1 spot 6-0, 6-0, while Solberg won 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 2 spot. Solberg has won seven straight singles matches. Hartley was the final winner in the No. 3 spot 6-0, 6-1.

The Saints (13-6, 6-1 UMAC) will next head out of conference to play a make-up match at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Thursday. Action is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
