PREVIEW: Women's Tennis Begins Conference Play Saturday

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team starts Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play on Saturday as it will run a split squad with some members playing North Central University and others playing Bethany Lutheran College.

Match Schedule: 
Saturday vs. North Central – 6 p.m. (Minneapolis-Baseline)
Saturday vs. Bethany Lutheran – 6 p.m. (St. Peter-Swanson)

St. Scholastica Saints
Record:
 7-5 (0-0 UMAC)
Head Coach: Wells Patten
-The Saints went 3-1 on their Spring Break trip to Florida last week. The lone loss came against Saint Mary's College (Ind.).
-CSS is 43-29 in singles play and 26-10 in doubles action thus far. The Saints have been best at No. 2 and 3 singles with a combined record of 19-5.
-Freshman Madeleine Scanlan (St. Albans, England /Loreto College) has won seven straight singles matches and is 10-2 on the year.
-Fellow freshman Jessica Solberg (Bemidji, Minn. /Bemidji HS) is 9-3 on the year, including 6-2 at No. 2 singles.
-Solberg and junior partner Alexis Gunderson (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) is 9-3 at the No. 1 doubles spot.
-Scanlan and Alexa Herbst (Foley, Minn. /Foley HS) is 8-2 at the No. 2 doubles spot.
-The Saints have been picked to finish tied for first in the conference this season, according to the preseason coaches' poll.
-CSS has never lost a UMAC match with a record of 111-0.

North Central University Rams
Record: 0-1 (0-1 UMAC)
Head Coach: Larry Bach
-The Rams dropped their season and conference opener on Tuesday against Bethany Lutheran. The lone winner for North Central was Sarah Trickey at No. 4 singles.
-North Central was winless last season and has not won a conference match in over two years.
-The Rams are picked to finish sixth out of six teams this year, according to the preseason coaches' poll.
Series History: (CSS is 10-0 vs. North Central)
-CSS has never lost an individual match against the Rams.

Bethany Lutheran College Vikings
Record: 1-9 (1-0 UMAC)
Head Coach: Andy Krueger
-The Vikings won their first match of the season, defeating North Central on Tuesday.
-Bethany has been shut out in seven of its nine losses on the year.
-Morgan Schwartz leads the team with two singles wins.
-The Vikings are 4-26 in doubles play with four different tandems earning wins.
-BLC has been picked to finish fifth in this year's preseason coaches' poll.
Series History: (CSS is 19-0 vs. Bethany Lutheran)
-The Saints have only lost three individual matches all-time against the Vikings with the last happening in 2010.
