Women's Tennis Defeats Ursinus to Wrap up Florida Action

ORLANDO, Fla. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team finished action down in Florida Tuesday night with an 8-1 win over Ursinus College (Pa.).

The Saints took all three doubles matches to begin the dual. The No. 1 team of Alexis Gunderson (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) and Jessica Solberg (Bemidji, Minn. /Bemidji HS) won 8-3. The No. 2 team of Madeleine Scanlan (St. Albans, England /Loreto College) and Alexa Herbst (Foley, Minn. /Foley HS) won by the same 8-3 score and has won four straight matches. Finally the No. 3 tandem of Allie Carlson (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin HS) and Katie Kingston (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) won 9-7.

In singles action, Gunderson won at the No. 1 spot 6-3, 6-1. Scanlan also had a straight sets victory at the No. 2 spot by scores of 6-3, 7-5. For Scanlan, it was her 10th win of the season and her seventh straight.

Solberg was victorious at No. 3 by scores of 6-1, 6-4. At No. 5, Aleksandra Ochrymowicz (Winnipeg, Manitoba/St. Mary’s Academy) was able to pull out a tight 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 triumph. The final winner for the Saints was Kelsey Geiger (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) at No. 6 by scores of 6-3, 6-1. 

The Saints (7-5) return to Minnesota and will open Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play on Saturday, March 22nd against both Bethany Lutheran College and North Central University.
