Women's Tennis Splits on Monday

ORLANDO, Fla. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team split its two matches on Monday down in Florida.

CSS 2, Saint Mary's (Ind.) 7
The Saints began the day with a loss to Saint Mary's College (Ind.). CSS won just one doubles match and one singles match. Winning in doubles play was the No. 2 duo of Madeleine Scanlan (St. Albans, England /Loreto College) and Alexa Herbst (Foley, Minn. /Foley HS) by an 8-6 score.

Scanlan was also victorious in singles action, winning a nail-biter in a super-breaker by scores of 7-5, 3-6, (12-10).

CSS 9, Saint Ambrose 0
In the nightcap, the Saints shut out Saint Ambrose University (Iowa) 9-0.

In doubles action, the No. 1 team of Alexis Gunderson (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) and Jessica Solberg (Bemidji, Minn. /Bemidji HS), along with the No. 3 team of Olivia Bretting (Ashland, Wis. /Ashland HS (St. Thomas)) and Miki Samz (Savage, Minn. /Burnsville HS), both blanked their opponents 8-0. The No. 2 tandem of Herbst and Allie Carlson (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin HS) won 8-3.

In singles action, Scanlan won at the No. 1 spot 6-2, 6-0. Solberg took care of business at the No. 2 spot by scores of 6-1, 6-2. Aleksandra Ochrymowicz (Winnipeg, Manitoba/St. Mary’s Academy) shut out her opponent at the No. 3 spot 6-0, 6-0.

Pamela Hartley (Lima, Peru/Franklin Roosevelt College) was victorious at the No. 4 spot 6-3, 6-3. At No. 5, Kelsey Geiger (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) won 6-1, 6-1. The final winner on the day was Halle Nystrom (Fargo, N.D. /Fargo North HS) at No. 6 by scores of 6-3, 6-2.

The Saints (6-5) will play Ursinus College (Pa.) tomorrow in its final match down in Florida. That match is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. Eastern time.
