ISHPEMING, Mich. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men skiers opened the Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA) Championships with a strong show of force, placing four skiers in the top 10 on Saturday.
Despite being the only team to do so, the Saints wound up third behind Northern Michigan and Alaska.
Alaska's Logan Hanneman took the win comfortably by 29 seconds in a time of 20:17.8 in a very fast 10km time. Northern Michigan's Kyle Bratrud collected second in 20:46.8, while teammate Fredrick Schwenke rounded out the podium in 20:46.8. NMU also took fourth to solidify the team win.
Paul Schommer (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly HS)'s string of five straight podium finishes came to an end with a sixth place finish in 21:15.9, while
John Wessling (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) posted his second top-10 finish of his career at the championship in eighth with a time of 21:22.4.
Chris Parr (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) posted his career-best CCSA Champs finish in ninth with a time of 21:30.7, while
Scott Johanik (Washburn, Wis./Washburn HS ) rounded out the top 10 for the Saints.
The CCSA Championships continue with a 20km Freestyle mass start Sunday.
