Saints Take Home another Win vs. Northland

Box Score ASHLAND, Wis. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team took home its sixth straight win with a 76-48 victory against the Northland College Tuesday night. 

The Saints started the game strong with an 8-0 run off shots by Erin Frase (Phillips, Wis./Phillips HS (UW-River Falls)) and Mariah Hovick (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS).  The LumberJacks fought to keep up with the Saints up until the five minute mark where the Saints went on another 8-0 run to secured their lead by 16 points. The Saints led 33-20 at the break.

Leading the Saints for the half would be Erin Frase (Phillips, Wis./Phillips HS (UW-River Falls)) with 14 points and Mariah Hovick (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) with 10 points. Danica Schellbach (Rush City, Minn./Rush City HS) and Sammy Doucette (Colfax, Wis./Colfax HS (UW-River Falls)) also chipped in seven and six rebounds apiece for the half. Leading for the LumberJacks was Erin Gilligan and Alison Blackford with four points each. The Saints struggled with making a shot outside the 3-point line and ended the half 0-for-6. 

Huber would start the second half off by sinking a three in the first 11 seconds immediately followed by another 3-pointer from Schellbach to put the Saints up by 19 points.

The Saints continued to build their score up as Brittani Brennan (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS) drained a jumper at the 6:43 mark that put the Saints up by 20 points, a lead they would maintain the rest of the way.  Blackford ended the game for the LumberJacks on a layup in the last 20 seconds that ended the game with Northland falling short 76-48.

The Saints recovered their 3-point play for the game by going 4-for-5 outside the arc in the second half and ended at 36 percent.  They continued good shooting from the field at 46 percent as Northland ended at only 32 percent.

Nine different players scored for Scholastica. The Saints were led by Hovick with 20 points followed by Frase and Brennan with 18 points and 11 points each. Northland (3-15, 1-7 UMAC) was led by Blackford and Brianna Tody with eight points apiece.

The Saints (12-7, 7-1 UMAC) are next in action this weekend against Bethany Lutheran College at 5:30 p.m. Friday and Martin Luther College Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
