PREVIEW: Women's Tennis to Play Three in St. Peter

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com)—The St. Scholastica women's tennis team will travel to St. Peter, Minn. this weekend to challenge Gustavus Adolphus on Friday and then Division II programs Minnesota State-Moorhead and Minnesota State-Mankato on Saturday. 

Match Schedule: (All matches at the Swanson Tennis Center)
Friday at Gustavus Adolphus – 6:30 p.m.
Saturday vs. Minnesota State-Moorhead – 8:30 a.m.
Saturday vs. Minnesota State-Mankato – 1:30 p.m. 

St. Scholastica Saints
Record:
 3-2 (0-0 UMAC)
Head Coach: Wells Patten
-The Saints are coming off a 9-0 loss to University of Wisconsin-La Crosse last Sunday.
-No. 2 singles player Jessica Solberg (Bemidji, Minn. /Bemidji HS) has a 4-1 record on the season so far.
-No. 1 doubles team of Alexis Gunderson (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) and Solberg, as well as No. 2 doubles team of Alexa Herbst (Foley, Minn. /Foley HS) and Madeleine Scanlan (St. Albans, England /Loreto College) are both 4-1 this season.
-The Saints are 18-12 in singles play and 11-4 in doubles action this season.

Gustavus Adolphus College Gusties
Record: 0-1 (0-0 MIAC)
Head Coach: Jon Carlson
-The Gusties are coming from a 9-0 defeat against Division I Drake University (Iowa).
-In 2013, the Gusties went 13-8 overall in season and 8-2 in conference action, placing them in third place in the MIAC.
-Gustavus is predicted to finish fourth in the MIAC this season, according to the preseason coaches' poll.
-The Gusties return seven players and added six newcomers to their program this season. There are only three juniors or seniors on the roster.
-Leading the returners is two-time All-MIAC singles and doubles performer Laurel Krebsbach.
Series History: (CSS is 0-8 vs. Gustavus)
-The last meeting between these two programs was last season when the Gusties beat the Saints 7-2.

Minnesota State University-Moorhead Dragons
Record: 2-3 (2-2 NSIC)
Head Coach: Oliver Summers
-The Dragons will face MSU-Mankato in a conference match on Friday night before playing the Saints on Saturday.
-Moorhead is coming off a pair of conference losses to the University of Mary and Upper Iowa last weekend.
-Sophomore Ashley Wood leads the singles action with a 4-1 record.
-Freshman Jessamy Jones is 3-2 at No. 1 singles.
Series History: (CSS is 7-6 vs. MSU-Moorhead)
-The teams last met in 2008 with the Saints coming out on top 9-0. In fact, CSS has won the last two meetings by a 9-0 score.

Minnesota State University, Mankato Mavericks
Record: 3-6 (2-3 NSIC)
Head Coach: Christie Williams
-The Mavericks snapped a four-match losing streak by defeating Minnesota, Crookston 8-1 on Sunday.
-Melissa Mashburn leads the way with a 6-3 singles record, including 3-0 at the No. 2 spot.
-Mashburn and Sarah McCann are also 6-3 in doubles, primarily playing at No. 2.
Series History: (CSS is 2-5 vs. MSU-Mankato)
-The teams last met in 2006 with the Mavericks edging the Saints 5-4.
