Saints Muscle Past Crown

Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team had an easy time with Crown College Friday evening with an 84-34 victory at the Reif Gymnasium.

The Saints set the tempo in the first seconds of the game on a layup by Danica Schellbach (Rush City, Minn./Rush City HS).

The Saints cruised through the first half going on an 18-0 run starting at the 9:25 mark. They ended the half up 45-13 over the Storm.

Schellbach would lead the Saints for the half with eight points followed by Brittani Brennan (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS) at seven. The Saints did well shooting for the half at 56 percent from the field. Crown struggled to get their shots to sink and ended the half going 1-for-11 outside the arc and only 22 percent from the field.

It was much of the same in the second half as the Saints continued to build their lead. The largest margin of the contest would be the final score of 84-34.

12 different players scored for the Saints for the night led by Caitlin McKernon (Coon Rapids, Minn./Fridley HS) with 17 points. McKernon also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Schellbach ended with 11 points. Desiree Davis ended the game leading Crown with 11 points.

Crown (1-19, 0-11 UMAC) continued to struggle with its shooting and ended the game going 1-for-19 from the 3-point line. The CSS bench out-scored the Crown bench 50-6. The Saints also outscored the Storm 46-12 in the paint.

The Saints (14-8, 9-2 UMAC) will the University of Minnesota Morris tomorrow in the UMAC Game of the Week. It will also be Senior Day at the Reif Gymnasium. Tip time is scheduled for 3 p.m. The action can be seen live on Saints Sports Net.
