DE PERE, Wis. (csssaints.com) – The No. 18-ranked St. Norbert College Green Knights used a 19-2 run spanning from the end of the first half to the start of the second half to pull away from the St. Scholastica men's basketball team and stay unbeaten Monday night 82-55.
The Saints got off to a good start and led for the better part of the first five minutes of the game. However, the Green Knights led for most of the first 20 minutes tonight and led by eight with over six minutes to go in the half.
St. Scholastica responded by going on an 11-2 run thanks to three 3-pointers to tie the game at 32-32 with less than two minutes to go before halftime. However, St. Norbert scored the final five points of the half to go into the locker room with a 37-32 lead.
The Green Knights (9-0) shot 54 percent from the floor and were 6-for-12 from beyond the arc. CSS shot 41 percent and made eight 3-pointers.
Marc Peterson (Esko, Minn./Esko HS) made three 3-pointers, while
Tyler Rosenberger (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) and
Joe Stark (Hayward, Wis./Hayward HS) each had two.
St. Norbert scored 14 of the first 16 points of the second half to extend its lead to 17 points in the first five minutes. The Saints would only get as close as 15 the rest of the way as St. Norbert went on to win 82-55.
The Green Knights shot 60 percent in the second half to finish at 57 percent for the game. The Saints were only 30 percent from the field in the second half and finished at 37 percent. St. Norbert went to the free throw line 10 more times than the Saints and made 10 more than CSS. The Saints finished with 10, 3-point field goals.
Peterson led the Saints with 12 points, all of which came on 3-point field goals. Fellow freshman Stark added 10 points.
Julius Johnson (Minneapolis, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) had four assists. D.J. DeValk and Andrew Schwoerer each had 16 to pace the Green Knights.
The Saints (3-6) will take on the University of Wisconsin-Stout tomorrow at 5 p.m. in the consolation game of the Nicollet National Bank Tournament.
