Nowakowski Scores Twice in Saints 4-3 Win

Notables:

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – St. Scholastica men's hockey defeated Concordia University Wisconsin 4-3 on Saturday night at Mars Lakeview Arena with Dylan Nowakowski (Calgary, Alberta/Centennial HS (Brooks-AJHL) ) scoring the game-winning goal.
 
St. Scholastica and Concordia Wisconsin each had 10 shots in the first period that ended 1-0 in the Saints favor. Keegan Bruce (Bellingham, Wash./Bellingham HS (Weyburn-SJHL) ) scored the lone goal of the period for CSS on the power play with Dave Williams (Okotoks, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) picking up the assist.
 
The Saints doubled their lead 2:41 into the second period with Steven Phee (Balzac, Alberta/George McDougall HS (Canmore-AJHL) ) scoring his first goal of the season from Luke Simpson (Canmore, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Canmore-AJHL) ) and Michael Spring (Kelowna, British Columbia/Okanagan Mission (Chilliwack-BCHL) ). With less than 10 seconds remaining in the second the Falcons would cut the deficit in half when Chris Hughes found the back of the net for a power-play goal. Devin Stuermer recorded an assist on the play.
 
Just 1:48 into the third period Stuermer tied the game 2-2 for Concordia with a power-play goal. Chris Hughes and James Poston were credited with assists on the play.
 
At 7:57 of the third period the Saints would take back the lead thanks to a Dylan Nowakowski (Calgary, Alberta/Centennial HS (Brooks-AJHL) ) power-play goal. Derek Hills (Campbell River, British Columbia/Timberline Secondary (Bowling Green State) ) picked up the assist on the goal. Nowakowski added an empty-net goal at 18:36 of the third for his second goal of the game.
 
With their goalie pulled and 5.6 seconds left in the game the Chris Hughes scored his second goal of the game for the Falcons bringing the final score to 4-3.
 
Corey Koop (Squamish, British Columbia/Howe Sound Secondary (UW-Stout)) made 29 saves on 32 shots for St. Scholastica to earn the win. Dylan Frank made 23 saves for Concordia-Wisconsin.
 
CSS has now won four in a row to start the season sweeping both the Milwaukee School of Engineering and Concordia University Wisconsin at Mars Lakeview Arena.
 
The Saints will hit the road for the first time this season next Saturday when they travel to Hancock, Michigan to take on Finlandia University.
