SUPERIOR, Wis. (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica men's basketball team rallied from an eight-point halftime deficit to defeat the University of Wisconsin-River Falls 78-75 in overtime on Saturday at Mertz Mortorelli Gymnasium.

The Falcons led the final 12 minutes of the first half and went into halftime with a 38-30 lead. The Falcons shot 57-percent from the floor in the half and was 6-of-10 on 3-point attempts.

UW-River Falls (1-3) led 47-37 with 15 minutes to go in the second half, before the Saints scored six straight points to cut it to four thanks to back-to-back buckets by LaMonte Hall (Minneapolis, Minn./DeLaSalle HS (Saint Mary’s)). A Julius Johnson (Minneapolis, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) 3-pointer made it 53-51 River Falls with 10 minutes to go.

Connor Goodwin made a free throw for the Falcons to extend the lead to 65-56 with 5:40 remaining. However, that would be the Falcons' final points of regulation.

Tyler Rosenberger (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) then carried the Saints back into the game, first drilling a 3-pointer to cut the margin to six. After a Nathan Carlson (Alvarado, Minn./East Grand Forks HS) basket, Rosenberger drained a jumper to make it 65-63 with under two minutes to play. With less than 20 seconds to play Rosenberger would miss two straight free throws, but get his own rebound and get a lay-up to tie the game at 65-65 to send the game into overtime.

In overtime, a Jake Naslund (Barnum, Minn./Barnum HS) 3-pointer made it 70-66 Saints with three minutes to go. Trailing by three, the Falcons would benefit from a five-point possession. CJ Lewis made a 3-pointer, while a loose ball foul was called on the Saints. Jack Herum made two free throws to put River Falls up 73-71 with 40 seconds to play.

Rosenberger answered for the Saints on the ensuing possession with a 3-pointer to put CSS back up 74-73. On the other end Herum put the Falcons back on top after connecting on two free throws.

After a CSS timeout, the Saints inbounded the ball on the baseline and found Andrew Laughlin (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS) on a weak side lob pass in which Laughlin converted to put the Saints up 76-75. Rosenberger would then steal the Falcons inbounds pass and hit two free throws. River Falls would get one desperation shot off, but it missed its mark as the Saints prevailed 78-75.

St. Scholastica shot 43-percent for the game, while the Falcons were 44-percent. Both teams combined for 16, 3-point field goals.

Hall led the Saints with a career-high 18 points. Rosenberger had a career-high 16 points, including 12 in the second half and overtime. He also had four steals. Naslund added 12 points and Johnson chipped in 10 points. Johnson and Mike Spoden (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids HS) each had six rebounds. CJ Lewis led the Falcons with a game-high 22 points.
