SUPERIOR, Wis. (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica men's basketball team lost to its Bridge Rival for a second time this season on Sunday as the University of Wisconsin-Superior won 96-62 in the Merrill Thompson Tip-Off Classic.
 
Four minutes in the Yellowjackets would go on a 10-0 run to take an 11-point lead. A Joe Stark (Hayward, Wis./Hayward HS) three-point play would cut the margin to six with 11 minutes to go in the half, but that is as close as the Saints would get. UWS went into halftime with 39-27 lead.
 
CSS committed 11 turnovers in the first half, which led to 12 UWS points. Superior shot 50 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes.
 
The Yellowjackets (4-3) used another 10-0 run early in the second half to put the game away. UWS gradually grew its lead and won by a final score of 96-62.
 
Superior made nine 3-pointers in the second half and finished with 12 for the game. UWS shot 59 percent in the half to finish at 56 percent for the game. St. Scholastica shot 42 percent for the game. The Saints were 18-for-21 from the free throw line.
 
Jake Naslund (Barnum, Minn./Barnum HS) led the Saints with 15 points, while LaMonte Hall (Minneapolis, Minn./DeLaSalle HS (Saint Mary’s)) added 14 points. Nathan Carlson (Alvarado, Minn./East Grand Forks HS) had a team-high five rebounds. Johnquez Brooks led five Yellowjackets in double-figures with a game-high 25 points.
 
The Saints (2-4) will be at Crossroads College (Rochester, Minn.) next Saturday for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
