DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team started out the 2014-2015 season in strong fashion with a 4-1 victory over the Milwaukee School of Engineering at Mars Lakeview Arena Friday night.

The Saints and Raiders played a scoreless first period with both goalies shutting the door on any offensive chances. CSS goalie Tyler Bruggeman (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS (Austin-NAHL) ) made 16 saves in the first alone as MSOE was in control outshooting the Saints 16-5.

Just over a minute into the second period Cody Ganchar broke open the scoring for the Milwaukee School of Engineering with a power-play goal on an assist from Logan Bauman.

Despite the early set back, the Saints would go on to have a strong middle period outshooting the Raiders 19-10, drawing two power plays, and winning over 60% of the faceoffs taken in the period.

At 10:14 of the second period Derek Sutliffe (Las Vegas, Nev./Odyssey Charter School (Langley Rivermen-BCHL) ) scored the first goal of the season for the Saints to tie the game 1-1. Luke Simpson (Canmore, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Canmore-AJHL) ) and Matt Malenstyn (Surrey, British Columbia/Tamanawis Secondary (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) were credited with assists on the goal.
