DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – St. Scholastica men's soccer defeated the University of Northwestern 1-0 Friday afternoon at Saints Field extending its winning-streak to 12 straight games.
The Saints, playing their second of three games this week, opened up the scoring against Northwestern just five minutes into the contest with
Andrew Jenkins (Cardiff, Wales/Whitchurch HS) converting on a breakaway for his 24
th goal of the season. The assists on the play went to
Tom Corcoran (Warrington, England/Great Sankey HS, Priestley College) (10) and
Andrew Xotta-Dickson (Adelaide, South Australia/Prince Alfred College (Anoka Ramsey CC)) (5).
The early goal from Jenkins would turn out all the scoring the game would provide despite CSS piling on the shots. St. Scholastica would finish the game with 22 total shots compared to just five for the Eagles.
Tom Corcoran (Warrington, England/Great Sankey HS, Priestley College) led the Saints with seven shots followed by
Sean Morgan (Belfast, Ireland/St. Patrick’s Grammar School) with four.
CSS goalkeeper
Jacob Ballheimer (Gerrards Cross, England/Chalfonts Community College) posted his 10
th shutout of the season on a three save performance.
After scoring the first half goal, the Saints were unable to solve Northwestern goalkeeper Turner Main who finished the game with 11 saves. Eric Fast and Joshua Fryc had two shots apiece for the Eagles.
St. Scholastica improves its overall record on the season to 15-2 and a perfect 11-0 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference. With the loss, Northwestern drops to 5-11-1 on the season and 5-5 in the UMAC.
The Saints are back in action Saturday afternoon against North Central University at Saints Field with a 12 p.m. start time.
