Saints Top Yellowjackets 4-3 in Border Battle Shootout

Notables:
-Andrew Jenkins (Cardiff, Wales/Whitchurch HS) scored two goals, including the game-winner, bringing his season UMAC leading total to 23 while also adding two assists.
-After falling behind 3-1 just past the midway point of the second half, UWS scored two unanswered goals in a span of four minutes rallying back to tie the game at 3-3.
-Sean Morgan (Belfast, Ireland/St. Patrick’s Grammar School) finished with a goal and an assist, scoring the opening goal and assisting on Jenkin's game-winner. Morgan leads the UMAC with 23 assists.
-CSS players Jenkins (53), Kyle Farrar (Sevenoaks, England/Kelsey Park Sports College) (45), Tom Corcoran (Warrington, England/Great Sankey HS, Priestley College) (43), and Morgan (39) hold the top four point highest season point totals in the UMAC.

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) - St. Scholastica men's soccer defeated the University of Wisconsin-Superior 4-3 Tuesday night at Saints Field in a back and forth contest.

Sean Morgan (Belfast, Ireland/St. Patrick’s Grammar School) opened the scoring for St. Scholastica in the 18th minute with a beautiful, curved shot beating the keeper far post from just inside the 18-yard box. The goal is Morgan's eighth of the season and Andrew Jenkins (Cardiff, Wales/Whitchurch HS) was credited with his sixth assist.
 
The Saints nearly doubled their lead in the 24th minute but Kyle Farrar (Sevenoaks, England/Kelsey Park Sports College) sent his header just wide of the post. In the 35th CSS would double the advantage as Jenkins found the back of the net for his 22nd goal of the year. With under ten minutes to go before the end of the half St. Scholastica defender Ben Phillips (Warrington, England/Lymm HS) was helped off the field with a left leg injury.
 
In the 43rd minute Sean Morgan (Belfast, Ireland/St. Patrick’s Grammar School) nearly scored his second of the game ripping a shot off the inside of the far post with a nice setup by Shawayne Folkes (Toronto, Ontario/Maxwell Heights).
 
The Yellowjackets created chances of their own in the first half recording seven shots but Saints keeper Jacob Ballheimer (Gerrards Cross, England/Chalfonts Community College) was up to the task making a save on Wisconsin-Superior's lone shot on goal.
 
The second half of this cross-state rivalry turned into a shootout with both sides trading chances and goals.
 
In the 63rd minute Wisconsin-Superior scored to cut the deficit to 2-1. Brian Grand got the goal for the Yellowjackets, his fifth of the year, with the assist going to Reyman Solis.
 
Just three minutes later the Saints would answer back with Kyle Farrar (Sevenoaks, England/Kelsey Park Sports College) heading an Andrew Jenkins (Cardiff, Wales/Whitchurch HS) cross past Yellowjackets goalie Matt Elder. Jonny Winter (Healthfield, England/Healthfield Community College) was also credited with an assist on the play.
 
Wisconsin-Superior would score yet another goal in the 67th minute cutting the Saints lead back down to one goal with a score of 3-2. Gio Rodriguez was the goal scorer for the Yellowjackets with his 10th goal of the year and Reyman Solis recorded his second assist of the game on the goal.
 
In the 70th minute Dan Baker would draw UWS level with his first goal of the season on a goalmouth scramble. Jon Bucklew was given the assist on the goal.
 
In the 79th minute the Saints would once again take lead, following a Yellowjackets turnover in their own half, as Andrew Xotta-Dickson (Adelaide, South Australia/Prince Alfred College (Anoka Ramsey CC)) played Sean Morgan (Belfast, Ireland/St. Patrick’s Grammar School) into space who then whipped in a low, hard cross than Jenkins slotted home for his second of the game and 23rd goal of the year.
 
Wisconsin-Superior would make a late push earning a corner in the final minute. With everyone forward, including the goalie, the Yellowjackets would send a header wide shortly before time expired giving CSS the victory.
 
St. Scholastica improves to 14-2 on the season with the win. The Saints are now 9-4-3 all-time against the Yellowjackets.
 
CSS is next in action this weekend for two games at Saints Field starting at 1 p.m. on Friday against the University of Northwestern and then a noon contest against North Central University on Saturday.
