Paul Schommer (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly HS) led St. Scholastica's efforts at the U.S. National Skiing Championships finishing sixth in the central region NCAA qualifier, and 45th overall in a time of 42:39.0 at Soldier Hollow Cross Country Ski Resort.
Adam Martin, a Northern Michigan University freshman, posted his first CCSA win in a time of 40:39.8, good enough for 15th overall. Alaska Fairbanks' Logan Hanneman, took second in 41:17.4 and 24th overall. Kyle Bratrud finished third in 42:00.0, good for 33rd overall.
Chris Parr (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) finished ninth in the CCSA in 43:23.3 for 60th overall, while sophomore
Joe Dubay (Coon Rapids, Minn./Andover HS) finished 18th in the CCSA to round out the Saints scoring in a time of 45:46.6. The Saints finished fourth in the CCSA team standings with 28 points. Northern Michigan won with 43 points, Alaska was second with 39, and Michigan Tech finished third with 33.
"We had a so-so day, but overall, it was still one if our best days at a U.S. nationals," according to Saints head coach
Chad Salmela. "That tells you how far the program has come, when the guys are a little dejected, but we post some of our best results at this event in history."
The Saints compete in a non-CCSA event Sunday, the U.S. National Championship 1.5km freestyle sprint.
