Saints Outlast Vikings

| By:
Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team came out victorious over the Vikings of Bethany Lutheran College Saturday night by a score of 75-64 behind a very balanced attack that saw four Saints score in double figures.

The first half of this contest saw a very tight game that saw no team gain a lead larger than seven points when Bethany Lutheran went up 19-12 with 10:12 remaining.  Overall the first half saw 10 lead changes and four ties.

The Saints would go on a 6-0 run in the last 1:15 of the first half to go into halftime up 35-30. That was the largest lead the Saints had been able to build up until that point.

Early in the second half Bethany Lutheran came out firing starting the half on a 6-0 run of its own to take the lead at 36-65 with 17:51 to go in the game.

That would be the last time the Vikings would hold the lead as the Saints quickly answered with a 3-pointer by Kelsey Sorenson-Giffrow (Braham, Minn./Braham HS (Minn. Duluth)) to take back the lead at 38-36.

The Saints scoring took off after the Sorenson 3-pointer quickly building a double-digit lead with the highest margin being at 18 points after a Caitlin McKernon (Coon Rapids, Minn./Fridley HS) layup with 3:13 left in the game.

The Vikings did manage to dwindle the Saints lead to eight points late in the game, but it proved to be too little too late as the Saints ended up taking the victory by 11 points 75-64.

Sorenson led the scoring for the Saints with 15 points followed by Brittani Brennan (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS) and Erin Frase (Phillips, Wis./Phillips HS (UW-River Falls)) with 12.  McKernon also contributed 10 points herself for the Saints. The CSS bench out-scored the BLC bench 28-6. Kasslin Swenson earned a double-double for the Vikings (5-11, 2-3 UMAC) scoring 16 points and collecting 19 boards on the night.

The Saints (9-7, 4-1 UMAC) will next play this Friday when they play host to the Eagles from the University of Northwestern with that game set to tip off at 5:30 p.m.  Keep up with all the action live at Saints Sports Net.
