CABLE, Wis. (csssaints.com) – St. Scholastica junior Paul Schommer (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly HS) never let the race lead out of his sight Saturday in the men's Telemark Chase 15km freestyle mass start skiing among the lead pack that never broke up until the final 300 meters.

Down the stretch, Northern Michigan's Kyle Bratrud was able to distance himself by 13.8 seconds over Schommer and 9.9 seconds over St. Olaf's Jake Brown.  Bratrud won in a time of 37:52.6, with Brown posting 38:02.5, and Schommer crossing the line in 38:06.4, to round out the CCSA podium.  The result marks the second consecutive podium for both Schommer and Brown.

Sophomore Joe Dubay (Coon Rapids, Minn./Andover HS) put in a final sprint to move into the top 10 at the finish after skiing most of the race in the high to low teens. Dubay finished 10th in a time of 40:01.2.  Junior Chris Parr (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) rounded out the team scoring, finishing 19th, in 40:44.5. 

Senior John Wessling (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) finished 20th to put four in the top 20 for the Saints on the
way to finishing third in the team scoring with 58 points.  Alaska and Northern Michigan tied for first with 66 points each.

"The guys looked today like the race form is coming around for most of them," according to Saints head coach Chad Salmela.  "Paul being on the podium again with pretty much all but one of the best CCSA skiers in the field is really promising. Joe, Chris, and John all looked strong and I think we are nearly running on all cylinders with most of
the team.  Certainly the guys coming back from U.S. Nationals are pretty primed right now, while some who stayed back had to deal with the cold spell the last two weeks. That has been a challenge.  I think they just need some races and it'll come together for everyone.  Overall, I'm very pleased with where we are."

The Saints finish up the Telemark Chase Sunday with a 10km classic.
