Box Score RIVER FALLS, Wis. (csssaints.com) – The 14th-ranked St. Scholastica men's hockey team trailed much of the night, but scored two goals in the third period to force overtime and ultimately settle for a 3-3 tie with 13th-ranked University of Wisconsin-River Falls on Saturday.
The Falcons took an early lead with a goal one minute and 25 seconds into the contest and then a second tally three minutes in to make it 2-0.
Justin Krabben (Rocky Mountain House, Alberta/Hunting Hills HS (Canmore-AJHL) ) put the Saints on the scoreboard with a power-play goal at the 13-minute mark of the first period.
Paul Marcoux (Brandon, Manitoba /Vincent Massey Collegiate (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) and
Alex Valenti (Blaine, Wash./Bellingham HS (Merritt-BCHL) ) had the assists.
River Falls extended its lead to 3-1 in the second period on a Jeff Bergh goal. That would be the lone goal of the second period.
Brandon Nowakowski (Calgary, Alberta/Central Memorial HS (Calgary Royals-AJHL)) found the back of the net with 7:03 remaining in the third to make it 3-2. His brother,
Dylan Nowakowski (Calgary, Alberta/Centennial HS (Brooks-AJHL) ), and
Matt Malenstyn (Surrey, British Columbia/Tamanawis Secondary (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) were credited with the assist. Then with four minutes remaining in regulation,
Chad Golanowski (Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Carroll HS (Calgary Canucks-AJHL) ) netted the game-tying goal for the Saints.
Dave Williams (Okotoks, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) had the assist. The game headed to overtime at 3-3.
The Saints would get a power-play in the overtime session, but would not get a shot on net with the man-advantage. The game ended in a 3-3 tie.
Tyler Bruggeman (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS (Austin-NAHL) ) had 20 saves for the Saints, while Tanner Milliron had 19 saves for the Falcons (9-3-2).
The Saints (9-3-3) will be back to Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) action next weekend when they visit No. 1 ranked Adrian College (Mich.) on Friday and Saturday. Friday's action begins at 7 p.m. Eastern time and can be heard live on Saints Sports Net.
