After a scoreless first period which saw the Pipers out-shoot the Saints 9-6, Hamline struck first in the second period on a Cody Mason goal less than four minutes into the second period. The first period was also delayed due to glass issues.

The score remained 1-0 until Alex Valenti (Blaine, Wash./Bellingham HS (Merritt-BCHL) ) tied it for the Saints with 4:43 left in the period. Derek Hills (Campbell River, British Columbia/Timberline Secondary (Bowling Green State) ) was credited with the assist. 21 seconds later, Dave Williams (Okotoks, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) gave CSS the lead thanks to a Keegan Bruce (Bellingham, Wash./Bellingham HS (Weyburn-SJHL) ) assist.
