PREVIEW: Men's Soccer to Host Gustavus on Wednesday

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's soccer team remains at home to begin the season when it hosts Gustavus Adolphus College at 4 p.m. on Wednesday at Saints Field.

-The Saints will be in search of their first "W" of the season on Wednesday as it fell to second-ranked Loras College (Iowa) 2-1 on Friday and then had to settle for a 1-1 tie against Concordia College (Minn.) on Saturday.
-In each of the first two games, the Saints scored first with Tom Corcoran (Warrington, England/Great Sankey HS, Priestley College) scoring against the Duhawks and Joe Watt (London, England/North West Kent College) scoring vs. Concordia.
-Watt, who led the nation in assists last season, has recorded a goal and an assist in each of the first two games. Dating back to last season, he has recorded at least one point in 11 of the last 12 games.
-After a successful penalty kick vs. Concordia on Saturday, Watt is now 7-for-7 on PKs in his career. The seven PKs made is already a program record.
-Senior goalkeeper Adam Hewitt (Richmond Hill, Ontario/St. Theresa of Lisieux Catholic HS) has stopped 16 shots in the first two games.

Gustavus Adolphus College Gusties

-The Gusties opened their season on Friday with a 4-0 victory over the NAIA's Viterbo University (Wis.). Ryan Tollefsrud scored twice in the victory.
-Last season, Gustavus captured the MIAC regular season and tournament championships with a record of 15-2-3 and 8-1-1 in the MIAC.
-The Gusties fell in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to UW-Platteville 3-2 in a shootout.
-Gustavus returns first team all-region goalkeeper Brett Ylonen. Ylonen led the MIAC last season with a 0.41 goals-against-average and a .896 saves percentage. He has not allowed a goal for 959:40 consecutive regulation and overtime minutes over a span of the last 11 games.
-A pair of third team all-region performers in Zach Brown and David Lilly also return for the Gusties. Brown led Gustavus in scoring for second straight season with 31 points off 14 goals and three assists in 2012. Lilly recorded nine assists, which was third-best in the MIAC.
 
Series History: (CSS is 2-12-2 vs. Gustavus)
-The Saints last played the Gusties in 2010 and came away with a 2-0 victory at Saints Field.
-Both of CSS's wins in the series have come at home.
