Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica men's soccer team extended their winning streak to five with a 9-0 victory over Northwestern Eagles on a cold and rainy Saturday afternoon at Saints Field.
For the second game in a row, a Saints player recorded a three-goal hat trick in the game.
The Saints started things off right away as
Joe Watt (London, England/North West Kent College) buried a penalty kick into the lower right corner of the net just 15 minutes into the game. The only other goal in the first half came off a one-timer by
Andrew Xotta-Dickson (Adelaide, South Australia/Prince Alfred College (Anoka Ramsey CC)) which was assisted by Watt's corner kick. At the end of the half, Scholastica had an 8-2 advantage in shots.
Just like the first half, the Saints started the second half strong with a goal coming in the first ten minutes with yet again another penalty kick. This one was put in right underneath the goalie by
Andrew Jenkins (Cardiff, Wales/Whitchurch HS). About eight minutes later,
Tom Corcoran (Warrington, England/Great Sankey HS, Priestley College) put in a rebound goal after a scramble in front of the net from a corner kick by Watt. Not even 30 seconds later Watt scored his second goal of the game with a 40-yard lob shot that took a spontaneous bounce over the goalie and rolled into the net. The Saints had one last surge in the last ten minutes of the game as they netted three more goals by
Shawayne Folkes (Toronto, Ontario/Maxwell Heights) and two by Jenkins to put the icing on the cake.
At the end of the game, the Saints had a dominating 25-5 advantage in shots as well as an 8-0 count in corner kicks.
Overall, the Saints were led by Jenkins with his hat trick and Watt with his two goals and three assists.
Adam Hewitt (Richmond Hill, Ontario/St. Theresa of Lisieux Catholic HS) made two saves to earn his fourth shutout of the season. Northwestern's Shane Coleman made 7 saves for the Eagles.
The Saints will look to continue their win streak next weekend as they go on the road to take on Bethany Lutheran on Friday and then following that up with a game against Martin Luther on Saturday.
