DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica soccer team racked up 11 goals and a whopping 43-0 shots advantage as the Saints easily defeated North Central 11-0 on Friday afternoon at Saints Field.
Seven different Saints scored in the contest, and Tom Corcoran tallied a hat trick as CSS dominated the contest from start to finish.
The Saints wasted no time in the opening minutes as Rob Johnson scored the opening goal off of the assist from Andrew Xotta-Dickson. Later in the 32nd minute, Sean Morgan (Belfast, Ireland/St. Patrick’s Grammar School) found the back of the net to extend the CSS lead to 2-0. St. Scholastica would continue to attack the NCU defense for the reminder of the half; however, the score remained 2-0 headed into the break.
However, CSS would break down the Rams' defense in the second half, exploding for nine goals. Joe Watt (London, England/North West Kent College) kicked things off for the Saints, netting a goal in the 55th minute to extend the lead to 3-0. In the next 14 minutes, the Saints would eliminate all hope of a possible NCU comeback by racking up six goals to blow the game open 9-0, including all three of Tom Corcoran (Warrington, England/Great Sankey HS, Priestley College)'s goals . Just for good measure, St. Scholastica tacked on a final pair of goals to push the score to the final of 11-0.
Adam Hewitt (Richmond Hill, Ontario/St. Theresa of Lisieux Catholic HS) did not have a save in the contest, as North Central was unable to muster a shot. Rams keepers Evan Hartwig and Nathan Kraines saved 23 shots in the loss for NCU.
The Saints look to remain unbeaten in the UMAC and ride their four game winning streak into its contest tomorrow afternoon at noon against conference rival Northwestern. All of the action can be seen live on Saints Sports Net.
