DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's soccer team settled for a 1-1 draw against Concordia College-Moorhead after the Saints scored on a penalty kick in the 70th minute only to see the lead slip away in the 79th minute Saturday afternoon at Saints Field.
There was no scoring the in the first half, but the Saints had the 5-2 advantage on shots on goal. The Saints also had a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks in the first half.
Joe Watt (London, England/North West Kent College) tallied his first goal of the year coming off of a penalty kick, which was slid past the keeper inside the right post to put the Saints up 1-0. The penalty kick was set up by a hand ball in the box.
The Cobbers would score on a nice thru ball in the 79th minute to tie the game up at 1-1. The teams played until there was 2:55 remaining in the contest and then the game was called due lightning in the area.
Concordia (0-1-1) finished the game with nine shots on goal and just three corner kicks. St. Scholastica (0-1-1) saw keeper
Adam Hewitt (Richmond Hill, Ontario/St. Theresa of Lisieux Catholic HS) make three saves in the contest. The Saints who finished with 14 shots on net and 12 total corner kicks.
UW-Superior would win the Advantage Emblem Cup for the men playing to a 1-1 draw with Loras College (Iowa) today.
CSS will host Gustavus Adolphus this coming Wednesday with action starting at 4 p.m. The game can be seen live on Saints Sports Net.
