No. 2 Duhawks Spoil Home Opener; Down Saints 2-1

Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – Second-ranked Loras College (Iowa) scored two second-half goals on its way to a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over the St. Scholastica men's soccer team Friday evening on Saints Field.

The Duhawks peppered CSS goalkeeper Adam Hewitt (Richmond Hill, Ontario/St. Theresa of Lisieux Catholic HS) with 12 shots in the first half, but it was the Saints who emerged with the 1-0 lead at the break. Joe Watt (London, England/North West Kent College) recorded his first assist of the season as Tom Corcoran (Warrington, England/Great Sankey HS, Priestley College) found the back of the net in the 29th minute off a Watt free kick for the lone goal of the half.

Loras continued their aerial assault on Hewitt in the second half with another 14 shots, tying the game at 1-1 as Loras Johnny Rummelhart scored an unassisted goal in the 48th minute.

The Duhawks would eventually take the lead in the 79th minute as Tim van den Bergh converted off of an assist from Chris Paulino. The Saints were unable to muster a shot after Loras took the lead, and the contest would end with the final score of 2-1.

Adam Hewitt (Richmond Hill, Ontario/St. Theresa of Lisieux Catholic HS) saved 13 shots in the loss for the Saints, while Duhawk keeper Dylan Milkent did not make a save in the contest.

The Saints will take on Concordia College (Minn.) tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. at Saints Field. The Cobbers fell to UW-Superior 3-0 on Friday at Public Schools Stadium. All of the action can be seen live on Saints Sports Net.
