PREVIEW: Soccer Teams to Host Advantage Emblem Cup

DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's and women's soccer teams will be hosting the 2013 Advantage Emblem Cup starting on Friday at Saints Field. UW-Superior will also host contests at Public Schools Stadium and at Superior High School.

St. Scholastica Saints
2012 Record: 18-5-0, 14-0-0 UMAC

-The Saints set numerous offensive records in the 2012 and made it back to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
-The Saints as a team led all NCAA Divisions averaging 4.13 goals per game, 95 total goals, 103 assists and 293 points.
-CSS returns most of that offensive firepower in 2013. Junior Andrew Jenkins (Cardiff, Wales/Whitchurch HS) returns after leading the nation with 59 points a year ago and being named the UMAC Offensive Player of the Year. Senior Joe Watt (London, England/North West Kent College) also returns after leading the country with 26 assists.
-Other seniors returning include Rob Johnson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS), Caleb Yurek (Northfield, Minn./Northfield HS), Antony Blackburn (Derby, England/John Port School) and Ryan Cullen (Andover, Minn./Andover HS).
-In net, senior Adam Hewitt (Richmond Hill, Ontario/St. Theresa of Lisieux Catholic HS) is back after finishing 2012 strong, being named UMAC Tournament MVP and stopping numerous shots against Loras in the NCAA Tournament game.
-CSS is the unanimous favorite to win the UMAC again this season.

Loras College Duhawks
2012 Record: 23-2-1, 7-0-0 IIAC
Head Coach: Dan Rothert

-Loras is ranked second in the NSCAA preseason poll
-The Duhawks advanced all the way to the national semifinals where they lost in overtime to eventual national champion Messiah.
-Loras is the unanimous favorite to win the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference again this season.
-The Duhawks return seven starters from last year's 23-2-1 team. Four of their top six scorers return from a squad that outscored opponents, 68-11.
-Leading the Duhawks offense will be senior midfielder Kevin Cavers. Cavers led the team with 24 points on eight goals and eight assists en route to Iowa Conference MVP honors.
-Senior goalkeeper Dylan Milkent will be the last line of defense for the Duhawks. He led all IIAC players in goals-against average, save percentage and shutouts.

Series History: (CSS is 0-1-0 vs. Loras)
The Saints fell to the Duhawks 1-0 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament last season. 

Concordia College Cobbers
2012 Record: 6-12-0, 3-7-0 MIAC
Head Coach: Ben Schneweis

-The Cobbers had just two wins in their final 12 games.
-Concordia has been picked to finish ninth in the MIAC this season, according to the preseason coaches' poll.
-Five losses last season were one-goal defeats.
-Eight starters return from last year's squad.
-Senior Peter Runquist returns in goal after leading the MIAC last season with 90 saves.
-Last year's leading scorer Jared Rice has graduated, but returning are honorable mention All-MIAC midfielders Michael Forston and Justin Flack.
-The Cobbers were near the bottom of the conference in shots and last in corner kicks last season.
-The Cobbers led the league last season with 25 yellow cards and allowed seven penalty kicks.

Series History: (CSS is 9-11-0 vs. Concordia)
The Saints defeated the Cobbers 4-2 last season in Concordia. The victory was number 100 for head coach Barry Chastey.
