MINNEAPOLIS (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team swept Bethany Lutheran College Friday night 9-0 in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament semifinal at the Baseline Tennis Center.
In doubles play, the No. 1 team of
Hillary Bungarden (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) and
Alexis Gunderson (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) won 8-3. The No. 2 tandem of
Megan Lawrence (Park Rapids, Minn./Park Rapids HS) and
Alexa Herbst (Foley, Minn. /Foley HS) won for the 11th straight time by a score of 8-2. The final doubles winners were the No. 3 duo of
Allie Carlson (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin HS) and
Jill Kammerer (St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) by an 8-5 score.
In singles action, Bungarden won 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot.
Rachael Zwiener (St. Cloud, Minn./Home School) came out on top at the No. 2 spot 6-3, 6-0 for her 10th straight win. Gunderson was victorious at the No. 3 spot 6-3, 6-4. Lawrence and
Aleksandra Ochrymowicz (Winnipeg, Manitoba/St. Mary’s Academy) both won by 6-0, 6-1 score at the No. 4 and 5 positions. The final winner was
Kelsey Geiger (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) at the No. 6 spot 6-1, 6-0.
The Saints (20-5) will face Northwestern College in the UMAC Tournament championship tomorrow at 11 a.m.
