ST. CLOUD, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team finished its five-match weekend with an 8-1 victory over the University of Minnesota Morris at the Gold's Gym in St. Cloud.
The Saints went 4-1 over the weekend with their lone loss coming against the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in non-conference action on Friday.
The Saints swept all three doubles matches. The No. 1 team of
Hillary Bungarden (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) and
Alexis Gunderson (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) won 8-5. The No. 2 tandem of
Rachael Zwiener (St. Cloud, Minn./Home School) and
Kelli Johnson (Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS) came out on top 8-2. Finally, the No. 3 team of
Megan Lawrence (Park Rapids, Minn./Park Rapids HS) and
Alexa Herbst (Foley, Minn. /Foley HS) blanked their opponents 8-0.
In singles action, Zwiener won at the No. 2 spot 6-3, 6-1. Gunderson won in a tight third set super-breaker 6-2, 2-6, (12-10). Lawrence won her 11th straight singles match with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 4. Johnson at No. 5 and Herbst at No. 6 both shut out their opponents by 6-0, 6-0 scores.
The Saints (14-5, 6-0 UMAC) will have next weekend off and will be in action next on Saturday, April 20th at home against Bethany Lutheran and Martin Luther.
