Women’s Tennis Seizes Two Wins

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team continues to be undefeated in UMAC play, winning binary matches played against Martin Luther College and North Central University on Saturday.

In the first match that took place Saturday morning in New Ulm, the Saints swept Martin Luther by a score of 9-0. After winning her ninth straight singles match at the No. 1 spot, Megan Lawrence (Park Rapids, Minn./Park Rapids HS) was followed by wins by Alexa Herbst (Foley, Minn. /Foley HS), Katie Kingston (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS), Kelsey Geiger (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS), Jill Kammerer (St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) and Halle Nystrom (Fargo, N.D. /Fargo North HS) in singles play. 

Following suit, doubles action featured both the No. 1 pairing of Lawrence and Herbst and No. 2 team of Kingston and Kammerer sweeping their matches 8-0. The No. 3 duo including Nystrom and Geiger were also victorious coming out on top 8-4.

Martin Luther drops to 1-3 in the season and 1-1 in UMAC play.

On Saturday night in Minneapolis, CSS kept the ball rolling with another 9-0 sweep against North Central. In singles action, Lawrence picked up her ninth straight win in the No. 1 spot, and saw Kammerer and Nystrom seize their second victory of the day. Kelsey Geiger (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS), Allie Carlson (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin HS), and Sarah Cooke (Hermantown, Minn. /Hermantown HS (Briar Cliff)) also prevailed in singles play.

Lawrence and Herbst swept their match at No. 1 doubles 8-0. At the No. 2 spot, Kammerer and Kingston came out on top 8-2. The No. 3 matchup featuring Cooke and Carlson also were victorious with a score of 8-2.

CSS (13-5, 5-0 UMAC) will travel to St. Cloud on Sunday to face the University of Minnesota Morris at noon.
