SARTELL, Minn. (csssaints.com) –The St. Scholastica women's tennis team extended its winning streak to eight matches with a 5-4 victory over the College of Saint Benedict on Tuesday night.
The Saints would drop two of the three doubles matches with the lone winners being the No. 3 tandem of
Megan Lawrence (Park Rapids, Minn./Park Rapids HS) and
Aleksandra Ochrymowicz (Winnipeg, Manitoba/St. Mary’s Academy) by an 8-4 score.
In singles action, CSS was strong at the top of the lineup as
Hillary Bungarden (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) prevailed at the No. 1 spot 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.
Rachael Zwiener (St. Cloud, Minn./Home School) won 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 2 spot.
Alexis Gunderson (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) rallied to win in a third set super-breaker 3-6, 6-2, (10-7). The fifth winner on the night for the Saints was Ochrymowicz at the No. 6 spot 6-1, 6-2.
Lawrence did see her 13-match singles winning streak come to an end, falling in a super-breaker at the No. 4 spot.
The Saints (18-5) will close out the regular season on Saturday when they host Northwestern College with the UMAC regular season title on the line. The action is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. at the Arrowhead Tennis Center.
