Women’s Tennis Cruises over Morris

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team blanked the University of Minnesota Morris 9-0 on Sunday at the Arrowhead Tennis Center.

It marked the third straight shutout victory for the Saints, who surrendered a match to the Cougars when the two teams met two weeks ago in St. Cloud.

The Saints were granted wins at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles by default. The No. 1 doubles team of Hillary Bungarden (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS)/Alexis Gunderson (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) won 8-2. That was the same score for the No. 2 doubles team of Rachael Zwiener (St. Cloud, Minn./Home School)/Kelli Johnson (Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS).

Bungarden, who lost to Abby Fragodt two weeks ago, defeated Fragodt today 7-5, 6-4 at the No. 1 spot. Zwiener won at the No. 2 spot 6-2, 6-2. Gunderson won 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 3 spot. Megan Lawrence (Park Rapids, Minn./Park Rapids HS) won her 13th straight singles match, coming out on top 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 4 spot. The final singles winner on the day was Johnson at the No. 5 position 6-0, 6-0.

The Saints (17-5, 9-0 UMAC) will be in nonconference action on Tuesday as they will face the College of Saint Benedict at St. Cloud's Gold Gym at 7 p.m.
