Saints Dominate North Central in UMAC Opener

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team started their 2013 campaign of  Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play with a 9-0 sweep of the North Central University Rams Friday night at the Arrowhead Tennis Center.

The Saints never lost a game in the singles matches which featured CSS's Hillary Bungarden (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS), Rachael Zwiener (St. Cloud, Minn./Home School), Alexis Gunderson (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS), Megan Lawrence (Park Rapids, Minn./Park Rapids HS), Aleksandra Ochrymowicz (Winnipeg, Manitoba/St. Mary’s Academy), and Kelsey Geiger (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS).  All six singles players won their respective matches 6-0, 6-0.

It was the same story in the doubles matches as the No. 1 team of Bungarden/Gunderson, the No. 2 team of Kelli Johnson (Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS)/Zwiener, and the No. 3 team of  Jill Kammerer (St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley HS)/Allie Carlson (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin HS) would all win their matches 8-0. 

It was North Central's (0-1, 0-1 UMAC) first contest of the 2013 season.

CSS (9-4, 1-0 UMAC) will travel to Northwestern College next Thursday to take on the Eagles in UMAC action. Those matches are scheduled to start at a TBD time.  Tune into csssaints.com for updates on start time as well as updates.
