ORLANDO, Fla. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team finished with a 3-1 record down in Florida after defeating Roger Williams University (R.I.) 7-2 on Thursday.
The Saints would win two matches by default and those came at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles. The other doubles team to win was the No. 2 duo of
Rachael Zwiener (St. Cloud, Minn./Home School) and
Kelli Johnson (Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS) by an 8-6 score.
In singles play,
Hillary Bungarden (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) won at the No. 1 spot 6-1, 6-1 for her sixth straight victory. Zwiener was also victorious at No. 2 by scores of 6-4, 7-5. At No. 4,
Megan Lawrence (Park Rapids, Minn./Park Rapids HS) took care of business 6-0, 6-2 for her fifth straight win. The last singles winner was Johnson at No. 5 in a third set super-breaker 6-2, 5-7, (10-4).
The Saints (8-4) return to the Midwest and get back to action next Friday at home when they begin Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action against North Central University. That match is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. at the Arrowhead Tennis Center.
