Box Score MORRIS, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team was unable to answer University of Minnesota Morris's hot three point shooting (10-for-17) and fell 75-68 Saturday night in the Saints' last regular season away contest in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC).
The first half was full of back-and-forth action as the Cougars and Saints battled possession for possession. The teams traded baskets for the first several possessions as Morris was able to hold the lead for most of the half after trailing early, but the Saints chipped away to only trail 37-33 heading into the break.
The second half saw the Saints finally tie the game up 43-43 at the 13:58 mark off of a
Trevor Morlock (Rogers, Minn./Rogers HS (Minn., Crookston)) lay-up. The Cougars would then use an 11-0 run midway thru the second half to pull away from the Saints.
Morris would lead by as much as 12 in the final four minutes as CSS was unable to cut the lead down enough to make the game within reach. The Saints would fall 75-68.
Morris (12-11, 7-5 UMAC) was led by Logan Orazem with 21 points and seven rebounds. Duluth native Steve Birman chipped in 14 points for the Cougars.
The Cougars would finish the game shooting 56-percent from the field, shot a blistering 59-percent from beyond the arc, and 63-percent from the free-throw line. Morris would commit 20 turnovers and hold its largest lead, 12 points, in the last 2:32 of the game.
CSS was led by
Brett Tester (Andover, Minn./Andover HS) with 21 points and five boards. Morlock added 17 points and 10 rebounds for the double-double on the night. No other Saints player had over eight points.
The Saints would finish the game shooting 50-percent from the field, 15-percent from beyond the arc, and 53-percent from the charity stripe. The Saints would lead in the rebounding category 30-28 while committing four less turnovers for a total of 16. CSS would have its only lead, two points, just one minute into the game.
St. Scholastica (8-15, 6-6 UMAC) will host North Central University and Northwestern College at the Reif Gymnasium next weekend to wrap up the regular season schedule. Friday's matchup is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. local time. Tune into csssaints.com for a live broadcast of the game.
