Women’s Basketball Blows Past Crown

Box Score ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team shot 60 percent from the floor on its way to a 90-44 victory over Crown College in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action Friday.

The Saints opened the game on a 12-2 run, but the Storm (2-16, 0-11 UMAC) crawled back in it and cut the margin to 20-16 with less than 13 minutes to go in the half. CSS responded with a 15-2 run and later closed the half scoring the final 14 points to lead 51-21 at halftime.

St. Scholastica shot a blistering 67 percent from the floor and did not make a single 3-pointer. Crown was held to 29 percent shooting.

The Saints would score the first six points of the second half to extend the margin to 36 points. CSS had another big run of 15-0 later in the game to make it 83-32. The Saints ultimately won 90-44.

St. Scholastica shot 53 percent in the second half and finished 12-for-16 from the free throw line. The Storm shot just 19 percent in the second half to finish at 24 percent for the contest. CSS out-rebounded the Storm 46-27. The Saints bench scored 44 points, while the Crown bench had zero points.

Danica Schellbach (Rush City, Minn./Rush City HS) led four Saints in double-figures with a game-high 14 points. Lindsey Olson (Port Wing, Wis./South Shore HS) and Emily Glomski (Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia/Dhahran HS) finished with 12 points apiece and Erin Frase (Phillips, Wis./Phillips HS (UW-River Falls)) recorded 10 points. Mariah Hovick (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) had nine points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Kendra Maagard led the Storm with 13 points.

With Martin Luther getting upset by North Central, the Saints move back into a tie with the Knights for third place. CSS also clinched a UMAC Tournament spot with the win tonight and Bethany Lutheran falling to Northwestern.

The Saints (10-12, 7-4 UMAC) will take on conference leader University of Minnesota Morris tomorrow in Morris. Action is slated to begin at 3 p.m.
