PREVIEW: Pair of WIAC Teams on Tap for Women's Hoops

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team gets back to action on Sunday when it travels to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. The Saints then play Bridge Rival UW-Superior on New Year's Eve.

St. Scholastica Saints
Record:

-The Saints look to end the calendar year strong and get back on track after falling at Augsburg on the 14th.
-Mariah Hovick (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) leads the way for the Saints with 11.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game, while Kelsey Sorenson-Giffrow (Braham, Minn./Braham HS (Minn. Duluth)) averages 10.3 ppg. All-UMAC first teamer Erin Frase (Phillips, Wis./Phillips HS (UW-River Falls)) averages 7.4 points and grabs a team high 5.1 rebounds per contest.
-Sorenson and Elena Huber (Northfield, Minn./Northfield HS) have shot the ball well from beyond the arc (39.5 and 39.1 percent, respectively). However, the rest of the team is under 28 percent on the season.
-CSS has shot the ball well from the line this season, knocking down 72.7 percent collectively.
-Sorenson is shooting 91 percent from the free throw line, which is ranked 20th in NCAA Division III.
-The Saints have struggled to take care of the ball this year, averaging 20.0 turnovers per contest. However, Saints' opponents have not fared much better, averaging nearly 18 (17.9) per game.
-Head coach Stacy Deadrick is in her 20th season at the helm for CSS, and is just two wins shy of career win 250.

University of Wisconsin-River Falls Falcons
Record: 3-6

-UW-River Falls looks to extend a two-game winning streak against CSS on Sunday. Previously, the Falcons downed UW-Stout and Viterbo University (Wis.), both on the road.
-River Falls has been led by Richell Mehus, who averages 10.6 points per game. However, Mehus is shooting a team worst 29.6 percent from the field on the year. Mehus has gotten to the free throw line 62 times already this season, making 66 percent.
-The Falcons have struggled shooting the ball this season. UWRF shoots 36.1 percent from the field, 30.9 percent from three and 63.6 percent from the free throw line.
-UW-River Falls has also struggled to take care of the basketball this season, averaging 21.6 turnovers per contest. Opponents have also had difficulties limiting sloppy play, averaging 19.6 per game.
Series History: (CSS is 8-18 vs. UW-River Falls)
-The Saints have lost six straight against the Falcons. River Falls defeated the Saints last season 76-54 at Reif Gymnasium.

University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets
Record: 4-4
Head Coach: Don Mulhern
-The Yellowjackets will face Northland College on Monday before facing the Saints on New Year's Eve.
-The jackets enter the week on a two-game winning streak after defeating UMAC schools University of Northwestern and Bethany Lutheran College.
-UWS is led by Sally Linzmeier, who is averaging 17.3 points per game. No other jacket is averaging over eight points per game. Linzmeier had 23 points in UWS' win over CSS earlier this season.
-Hadley Skalmoski leads the team with 7.3 rebounds per game.
-UWS has scored exactly the same amount of points as its opponents this season 491-491.
-The Yellowjackets are shooting only 25 percent from beyond the arc this season.

-The Yellowjackets have won three straight against the Saints, including a 74-63 victory a few days prior to Thanksgiving this season.
