Men’s Soccer Cruises to Victory

Box Score

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com)- The St. Scholastica men's soccer team scored five goals in the first half and never looked back on the way to an 8-1 win over Martin Luther College on Saturday.

The Saints stared the scoring action when Sean Morgan (Belfast, Ireland/St. Patrick’s Grammar School) took a pass from Antony Blackburn (Derby, England/John Port School) and buried it in the back of the net. Martin Luther would soon answer less than a minute later when Ryan Lemke scored on a penalty kick.

The Saints would then go on to score four unanswered goals in the first half and three more in the second half to run away with the match.

Five different Saints players recorded goals in this match with Tom Corcoran (Warrington, England/Great Sankey HS, Priestley College), Sean Morgan (Belfast, Ireland/St. Patrick’s Grammar School), and Shawayne Folkes (Toronto, Ontario/Maxwell Heights) recording two goals each.

Martin Luther goalkeeper did all he could to stop the onslaught of offense from the Saints stopping 17 shots total out of 25 while his own offense managed only three shots on goal.

Joe Watt (London, England/North West Kent College) and Sean Morgan (Belfast, Ireland/St. Patrick’s Grammar School) each totaled three assists for the Saints, leading the team in that statistic while Andrew Jenkins (Cardiff, Wales/Whitchurch HS) came in a close second with two.

The Saints will next be in action at home against Northland College this Saturday at 2:15 pm at Saints Field.
